Progressive Policy is Popular Policy

Progressive Policy is Popular Policy

Accurate Representation
February 14, 2019 Progressive positions are incredibly popular! They are not the positions of the “far left,” the newest boogeyman in political circles. But progressivism is actually middle of the road. It is what the majority of people want! How did we get here, to a place where good people are repeating tropes like “extremes on both sides are hurting us?” Newsflash: the extreme on one side are literally murdering people for their beliefs, race, political affiliation, and those portrayed as  “extremists” on the other side are fighting for justice for all. It’s obvious that right-wing pundits have won the “framing” wars and reality has lost the fight. Fortunately, the little known truth is, what some call “radical left” or “socialist” ideas, are actually the common ground we have all…

McSally Misleading Public On Legal Status For DACA and TPS.

McSally Misleading Public On Legal Status For DACA and TPS.

Fact Checks, Immigration & Border, Issues
by Mo Goldman - Immigration Attorney In an era where Trump and his supporters constantly scream “fake news” and decry alternate facts, they don’t seem to have a problem with it when it is for their own political cover. One of the most recent examples is today when Senator Martha McSally posted on Facebook about the failed Republican “compromise” bill. In her Facebook post she claims that their proposal would offer “legal status” for those recipients of DACA and TPS. Wrong! While this may seem like a minor distinction, it’s not and it’s terribly misleading to the public. DACA and TPS recipients undergo periodic vetting and have to file an application with a fee for temporary legal protection from deportation, also known as “deferred status”. On the U.S. Citizenship and…

Grant Woods Reveals His True Self

Grant Woods Reveals His True Self

Candidates
Woods attacks Pelosi, and Then Makes Misogynistic References to Body Parts and Attacks Her Looks During Grant Woods’ radio program called The Grant Woods Show, there was a regular feature called the Woody Award. Grant and his guests seemed to believe it was a clever play on words. His last name is Woods; they used a stuffed toy of Woody the Woodpecker as a prop, (and the theme music from the cartoon show);  and they told sexual ‘jokes’ about how stiff, warm, hard, etc., Woody was. Almost always a female guest held the Woody prop. Always, the Woody Award was given as an insult. Its purpose was to signify who Grant believed had said the most stupid words, or performed the most stupid action for that week. In a video…

Arizona: This is Grant Woods II

It’s Disturbing to Watch Grant Denigrate Overweight Plane Passengers Mocking and insulting people due to their physical appearance is uncalled for from anyone, but especially from a person vying to represent us in Washington DC. Yet, on social media and during his KTAR/KFYI radio program--the Grant Woods Show--this is exactly what Grant Woods has done. From Facebook: In an October 18, 2010 post, Woods insults the Canadian actress and singer Jessica Pare, who played Megan Draper in the AMC series Mad Men. There is something very ‘Trumpian’ about Grant’s fixation on valuing--or devaluing--people’s worth based on their outward appearance. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine Trump himself hatefully denigrating the man and woman that Grant bullies in the following 2009 video excerpt. Who can forget Trump publicly body-shaming former…

By Bryna Koch Grant Woods Mocked a Victim of Abuse for Laughs by Making Sexualized Jokes Content Warning: graphic reference of sexual abuse and victim blaming You might remember that Grant Woods was the Arizona Attorney General from 1991 to 1999. You also might recall his name from the Fiesta Bowl scandal. Grant was hired by the Fiesta Bowl after articles in the Arizona Republic revealed possible campaign-finance violations. Grant was paid $55,000 to investigate these allegations. He investigated for one week and found no wrongdoing. He later admitted his investigation was rushed. Grant published an apology here.  After a more thorough investigation, six employees of the bowl including the CEO were found to be involved in campaign-finance violations.    Grant publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016. In September, just…

Where do your donations go?

Where do your donations go?

Finances
Jul 24, 2018 People have asked us what we do with the donations that we solicit and very gratefully receive.  Here are some of the expenses we use these funds for: Putting on Candidate Forums - This is by far our biggest expense.   Each forum costs around $500 - $750 to rent a space.  We have been using Tucson Unified School District locations, so our rental fees go back into supporting the schools we use.  The cost includes the facility rental, TUSD personnel costs, and required event insurance. Printed Materials to hand out at forums – We usually spend around $150 on printing material for each forum, which includes items like the note cards and report cards we handed out at our most recent events.  We love getting your feedback…

McSally’s Anti-Immigration Statement Analysis

McSally’s Anti-Immigration Statement Analysis

Fact Checks, Immigration & Border
May 30, 2018 by: Bryna Koch Here in Southern Arizona’s Congressional District 2 we are used to politicians lying about the border and demonizing immigrants to justify anti-immigrant policies, increased surveillance, and wasted money on projects that never really work out. If you are following Representative McSally’s Senate aspirations, you have observed her hard right turn (like her change of position on DACA)--using lies and exaggeration to prove to primary voters that she can be just as hateful towards immigrants as Kelli Ward and Joe Arpaio. Her statement on May 22 to the Homeland Security Committee is a a clear example of how she has abandoned caution and human decency to demonize immigrants in an attempt to justify a hard-line against immigration from the south. In our continued series of…
